My Story

Hey I'm Emily,

—the heart and mind behind Strike Your Match Speed Dating (SYM). I launched SYM in November 2023 with one goal: to bring back the spark of genuine, face-to-face connections in Salt Lake City’s dating scene.

Like many singles, I grew tired of endless swiping, awkward chats, and the burnout that comes with dating apps. I wanted something real—something fun, welcoming, and personal. Inspired by the success of speed dating in cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, I realized Salt Lake City deserved the same opportunity. When I noticed most local options were still virtual, I set out to change that.

With the support of Shades on State, I hosted my very first in-person event in January 2024. By year’s end, SYM had grown into six unique events across multiple venues—each one designed to help singles connect, laugh, and explore real possibilities.

Creating SYM has been an incredible journey. I love designing themed events that make it easy to start conversations and break the ice. Outside of planning and hosting, you’ll usually find me with my 7-year-old son and two dogs. Originally from Arizona, I’ve called Utah home since 2010, where I also work as a Project Manager for a local credit union.

Just like my guests, I’m still on my own path to finding a partner. In the meantime, I’m proud to provide a lively, in-person space where singles can step away from screens, meet new people, and maybe find someone truly special.
